Quality Engineering Manager

The Position: Quality Engineering Manager

This Manager is responsible for Northstar’s Quality Engineering functions, including design assurance, system level hardware & software verification / validation, risk management activities, and field, manufacturing, and supply chain quality engineering.

Position Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Develop and manage the Quality Engineering team that:
    • Plans and executes system level design verification and validation activities.
    • Plans and executes product risk management activities.
    • Helps drive “best practices” into product development and manufacturing processes.
    • Supports product development in normal design process deliverables (reviews, drawing approvals, test planning etc.)
    • Oversees supplier process validations.
    • Drives nonconformance resolution in design, field, manufacturing, and supply chain.
    • Manages supply chain quality in outsourced manufacturing model.
    • Participates in continuous improvement of the Quality System.
  • Performs typical managerial duties including:
    • Performance appraisals
    • Coaching, mentoring team members
    • Budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation
    • Goal setting
  • Acts as in individual contributor in Quality Engineering activities as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

 

The Person:
An enthusiastic individual with a strong technical and broad quality background in the medical device industry.  Individual must be a strong leader who is committed to excellence and willing/capable to operate as an individual contributor when necessary.  The person must be able to work effectively, communicate well, and establish strong relationships cross functionally.  This person may occasionally represent Northstar externally with suppliers. 

Job Specifications:

  • BS or MS in an Engineering discipline
  • 7 – 10 years in Quality Engineering; strong preference for 7+ years in the medical device industry (electronics, disposables, implants).  Implanted device experience favored.  Broad range of HW / SW based product experience required.
  • Quality or Reliability engineering/Quality assurance, Quality Systems, risk management, product development,  verification/validation, manufacturing, operations, supply chain management
  • Management of Quality engineering team (approximately 6 individuals)
  • Personal computers, technical instrumentation/equipment, statistical tools.
