Research Project Manager

Title: Research Project Manager

Position Summary:
The Research Project Manager evaluates new opportunities for Northstar and recommends a course of action.  The individual in this position also leads teams to design, implement, and analyze clinical and pre-clinical scientific research to meet Northstar’s objectives.  As such, this person is a liaison to the scientific and medical community.  The individual also has cross-functional project management responsibilities comprised of overall project leadership, coordination, and successful project execution.
Position Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Evaluates potential new opportunities for the company.

  • Leads project teams to meet research objectives and coordinates crossfunctional project activities as well as reporting the project progress and other communication necessary for the success of the project.
  • Develops project plans and other project documents
  • Plans, conducts, and and supervises clinical and preclinical research; works with experts to define and design protocols. Works closely with research scientists, study investigators, clinical staff, and biostatisticans
  • Works with investigators to write study abstracts and manuscripts
  • Represents Northstar in external discussions, including technical and scientific, and establishes and maintains relationships with key consultants and advisors
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
  • Works on multiple technical projects at a time

The Person:
This position requires an energetic, enthusiastic, hands-on individual who can function effectively in a technological, entrepreneurial environment.  Someone with a successful track record and broad experience managing projects, who can effectively interact and manage individuals with diverse technical backgrounds, and who can work well within a crossfunctional team and positively represent Northstar in interactions with scientists, clinicians, investigators and regulatory agencies.  One who is a bright and creative scientist/engineer; can self-start and is comfortable assuming responsibility and making decisions.  Talent in identifying and forming effective relationships with key opinion leaders in industry is key to being successful in this role.  Requires an advanced degree in a neuroscience or biomedical engineering discipline and at least 5 to 10 years of experience in a related field that should include industry experience.  Medical device industry, clinical trials, and project management experience required.  Biomedical engineering, neuroscience, and/or medicine experience also required.  The ability to produce produce clear, well-written English documentation and high-quality studies based on well defined principals that meet regulatory expectations is a key skill.  You must have proven analytical, interpersonal, communication, organization, and planning skills and an awareness of the business and market needs.
