Northstar Neuroscience is pioneering the development
of cortical stimulation therapies. We are working
with healthcare partners to develop clinical applications
from the science of neurostimulation. Our solutions
are tuned to the individual needs of patients –
offering greater hope for the renewal and recovery
from neurological injury, disorder or disease –
enabling them to regain their quality of life. Northstar's
Renova™ Cortical Stimulation System*
is an investigational device that is in clinical trials
for several indications, including stroke motor recovery,
aphasia, tinnitus and depression.
Northstar Neuroscience has developed the proprietary
Renova™ Cortical Stimulation System
that delivers targeted electrical stimulation to the
outer surface of the brain - the cerebral cortex.
The cortex controls or influences many important neurological
functions. Because stimulation is delivered to the
protective outer layer of the brain, it is more easily
accessed than deeper brain structures resulting in
a less invasive surgery. Cortical stimulation, the
process of stimulating sections of the cerebral cortex,
is being investigated for several clinical applications
including stroke, tinnitus and depression.
* Caution: Investigational device. Limited by Federal
(or United States) law to investigational use.
